Kayla Stansberry
Kayla (She/Her) is an Autistic, ADHD, Fat & Queer, Licensed Psychotherapist and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. Through her content creation and advocacy efforts Kayla has become a go-to resource for body liberation. Kayla's lifelong experience in a fat body as well as over a decade in working with larger bodied clients has facilitated her education and specialization in Fat Trauma and Body Liberation. Her commitment to dismantling anti-fatness in mental health motivates her advocacy work.
As a psychotherapist, Kayla has guided hundreds of clients in navigating their traumatic experiences with body image. Through the creation of her own practice, Intuitive Growth Counseling, Kayla has cultivated bodysafe and neuro affirming space for both clients and fellow clinicians. Kayla’s dedication to advocacy has motivated her to challenge the mental health field’s understanding of the fat experience, through trainings and facilitating provider consultation groups.
Broadening her advocacy efforts in 2021, Kayla branded herself as The Fat Positive Therapist. Attempting to promote positive treatment of larger bodied people. Content creation has helped Kayla cultivate fat community through education, podcasts appearances, speaking engagements and organizing retreats. Kayla’s podcast Fat Positive… Everything podcast has provided her with over thirty interviews with fat liberation specialists in the field. Her engagement in both Instagram, Tik Tok, Podcasting and Substack writing has expanded her platform and given her the opportunity to connect with fat positive resources and absorb information on lived experiences of the fat community.
The foundation of Kayla's work focuses on social justice and how racism and ableism facilitates body oppression. Kayla believes in the power of community and does not shy away from identifying her privilege and intersections of identity. Owning the importance of accountability, growth and humility. Kayla loves to educate her followers through high energy, humor and authenticity. When not educating the masses, Kayla can be found reading fantasy novels under her weighted blanket or being childishly goofy with her partner and three littles.
